Who Should Attend

What to Expect

Self-employed creatives need the skills and confidence to make their business a success, but professional development tailored to this group is non-existent. And so the Freelance Festival, in conjunction with The Walkley Foundation and The Media and Arts Alliance, was conceived to show these budding entrepreneurs that freelancing, with the right skill-set and attitude, can be a successful and rewarding career.

Featuring keynote speakers, panel discussions, workshops, and business advice, the festival will be an unmissable opportunity for established and emerging freelancers to network with like-minded people and to plan for the future.

Topics covered include:

  • business skills
  • the know-how to manage multiple income streams
  • tips on how to source work
  • an understanding of contracts
  • a willingness to learn about new technology and new ways of doing things
  • the confidence to go out there and build your own mini-media empire.

The inaugural Freelance Festival will teach you how to do all these things and more. You'll also have ample opportunities to network with successful entrepreneurs and media professionals who are managing their own careers. You'll meet like-minded people while enjoying the serenity of Launceston and its delicious food and beautiful wineries.

Above all, you will acquire the confidence, connections and skills to start and manage your own freelance media business.
